Penalties depend on the severity of the incident. Leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage carries up to 60 days in jail and a $500 fine. If the accident caused injury, penalties increase to up to 5 years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Accidents involving death carry up to 10 years.
